Feeling overwhelmed by negativity? Here’s a piece of positive news! Summerfall Studios, earlier this year, initially faced a setback when their crowdfunding campaign for Malys, a demon-themed roguelike deck-building game (similar to the best roguelike games), didn’t reach its goal. Consequently, they opted for an Early Access release. While Early Access can be unpredictable, it seems to have paid off, paving the way for the game’s official 1.0 launch.

Yesterday, Summerfall Studios announced that Malys will officially launch on October 23rd for players in the US and Europe, and October 24th for those in Oceania. In a developer update, they stated, “We could add so much more to Malys given infinite time and resources. However, we are incredibly proud of how far the game has come and how enjoyable it is to play.” The studio also indicated they would be relatively quiet leading up to release, dedicating their time to addressing final feedback, implementing features, and adding that finishing touch of polish.

Prepare for a fresh start with version 1.0, as existing save files will be reset upon the update. The full release brings a complete and engaging storyline, featuring three distinct regions to explore, a revamped music score, and, of course, a challenging final boss encounter. Additionally, the developers have doubled the number of random encounters, cards, curios, demons, consequences, and rewards within the game.

For those unfamiliar with Malys, it’s a roguelike deck-builder where you play as a former priest who becomes a demon hunter, tasked with performing exorcisms within a ruined city. A noteworthy fact is that Summerfall Studios was co-founded by David Gaider, a lead writer on the original Dragon Age series, bringing considerable experience and storytelling talent to the project.

If you’re intrigued, now might be the perfect time to acquire Malys, as the price will slightly increase upon launch. You can find Malys available for purchase on Steam.
