After much anticipation, the indie game Peak, developed by Aggro Crab and Landfall Games, has introduced a rather unusual feature. The latest update for the climbing simulator subtly includes the ability for players to engage in cannibalism.
While community members have already modified Peak to populate the game world with skeletal remains of previous climbers, the studios responsible for Another Crab’s Treasure and Content Warning now offer a more direct method of survival: consuming fellow players during your ascent.
“It’s done,” the developers posted, seemingly nonchalant, as they launched patch 1.10.a, enabling player cannibalism. The patch notes lack specific details on the mechanics, leaving players to imagine the interactions required before devouring another mountaineer.
Perhaps starting with the extremities isn’t ideal. And, of course, maintaining eye contact during the consumption of a comrade’s elbow is likely in poor taste.
Beyond the introduction of cannibalism, the Peak update also provides a new “Climbing Extra Field Of View” setting, allowing for customization of the FOV changes during climbing. A “push to mute” function, operating as a reverse push-to-talk, has been added, and the game now supports Polish and Turkish languages.
Fittingly, this macabre update includes tweaks to food and cooking mechanics, preventing well-done snacks from losing their buffs if stored for later consumption.
The update also implements various bug fixes and performance improvements, including resolutions for issues involving wildflowers and the temporary removal of the Napberry plant to enhance performance. Efforts are still underway to resolve a bug causing excessive fall damage from short drops, with a current fix addressing instances of this occurring while “sliding down while holding the wall.”
Review the complete patch notes for further details, if you have the stomach for it.
