Okay, I get it, maybe I’m a bit obsessed with Elden Ring Nightreign. But my friends keep dragging me into it, and honestly, it’s still a blast.
So, buckle up, because there’s a new enhanced Nightlord boss to conquer: the Everdark Sovereign Fissure in the Fog, also known as Caligo, everyone’s favorite dragon.
This guide will walk you through Caligo’s updated attacks, the ideal team setup, essential preparations, and the best strategies for taking down this formidable foe and its fresh mechanics.
Recommended Team Compositions
As with other Everdark Nightlord battles, assembling the right team is paramount. Whether you’re going in as a duo or a trio, the composition of your party is crucial, and here’s why, with suggested characters:
- Wylder: An essential pick for this fight. Since Caligo tends to move around the arena extensively, Wylder’s Clawshot is perfect for quickly closing the distance, even during AOE mist attacks. Plus, Wylder’s well-rounded stats enable wielding weapons like the Blasphemous Blade or Mohgwyn’s Spear with ease.
- Ironeye: While squishy (Raider might be preferred), Ironeye is vital for shattering the crystallized armor of the enhanced Caligo, as you’ll discover soon. Two Wylders can also make breaking Weakening Marks easier. A fire-affinity bow will make this fight much easier.
- Recluse: Generally not a top pick, Recluse is a good option here due to her ability to maintain a medium distance, utilizing magic spells, and potentially fire-based ones if your run allows.
These are just suggestions. Play with whichever character you’re comfortable with. My friends both used Wylder, while I chose Ironeye to focus on dealing specific damage to Caligo’s body parts, according to her new mechanics that you’ll learn about in the next section.
Key Differences With Everdark Sovereign Fissure in the Fog
Frankly, the Everdark Sovereign Caligo fight is one of the more intricate enhanced boss battles, demanding careful preparation.
The key difference is that Caligo has boosted frostbite attacks, and in her new phase, she gains crystallized armor across four main body areas: the head, torso, tail, and wings, all of which can be shattered.
Breaking all these crystallized armor pieces will not only inflict bonus damage but also make her more vulnerable, creating an opening for significant stagger damage.
Bringing a dedicated Ironeye for damaging the wings is highly recommended, as melee characters will find them difficult targets.
How To Prepare For Everdark Sovereign Fissure in the Fog
Here are the necessary precautions and equipment. Trust me, these matter.
First, activate the Mountaintop Shifting Earth Event for two reasons. The boss fights have boons that grant frostbite resistance. Stack this buff whenever possible. Only pick a weapon if it is absolutely compelling; otherwise, boost your frost resistance!
Optimal Route: Frost Ruins > Flying Dragon > Demi-Human Swordmaster > Grab Mountaintop Favor > Mountaintop Ice Dragon > Giant Crows > circle back around for another swordmaster > The duo Ice Trolls.
The second reason: the Favor of the Mountaintop is critical, halving frostbite damage and buildup. This is vital against Caligo, particularly in her new phase.
Finally, fire-affinity weapons are essential for damage output, especially in trios.
My friends were fortunate enough to get drops like the Blasphemous Blade and Magma Wyrm sword without specific fire-affinity camps. Hopefully, you’ll have similar luck.
Everdark Sovereign Fissure in the Fog Moveset
This dragon is relentless, especially with the Everdark transformation. Below are the new, key attacks from the Everdark Sovereign version of Caligo.
This will exclude the base form Caligo attacks and concentrate only on the new attacks accompanying the Everdark Sovereign version.
|
Moveset |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Crystal Form Transition |
As Caligo transforms, it emits a short-burst AOE explosion. Move out of range during this transition. |
|
Ice Pillar Explosion |
Caligo creates an icy pillar before shattering it, resulting in a frostbite-inducing AOE blast. The damage and frost buildup are minimal with adequate resistance. |
|
Unlimited Ice Works |
An enhanced Ice Barrage where Caligo unleashes numerous ice shards from its wings. Caligo will fly, release larger ice shards, and crash down before a full-force blast. Evade this by dodging continuously or running to the side. |
|
Icicle Wing Blast |
Caligo drags its wings and releases an upward burst of icy mist. Easily telegraphed; reposition to the side or behind it to avoid. |
|
Ice Tail Wave |
An amplified version of an existing attack. Caligo sprays icy mist, lashes its tail, and launches icicle waves, detonating nearby shards. |
|
Downward Ice Breath |
Caligo breathes a mist of icy breath that rapidly causes frostbite. Move quickly to avoid this. |
How To Beat Everdark Sovereign Fissure in the Fog
First Phase
Initially, you must defeat the normal version of Caligo. She always begins with an icicle barrage, so be prepared to avoid the hail of ice.
Avoid wasting too many flasks in this stage. The true challenge is ahead, so conserving flasks is crucial.
Caligo has substantial HP in both duos and trios, so despite fire-affinity weapons, avoid being too aggressive in the first phase. The Everdark phase will begin at 60% health.
