Trent Merrin, a former Australian rugby league player, faces charges linked to an alleged theft of cryptocurrency totaling approximately $91,000 (AUD $140,000).
A report from The Sydney Morning Herald details that Merrin was arrested at his residence in Barrack Point on November 4.
This arrest followed an extensive investigation into suspicious activities related to the cryptocurrency account of a 29-year-old individual. Authorities allege that Merrin utilized illicit means to transfer digital assets for financial gain.

During the course of their investigation, authorities seized multiple digital devices from Merrin’s residence, which will be analyzed further in support of the case.
Merrin has been released on bail with specific conditions and is slated to appear in Port Kembla Local Court on December 3.
Merrin played in the National Rugby League (NRL) for teams like St George Illawarra Dragons, Penrith Panthers, and Leeds Rhinos.
He participated in 250 first-grade matches and received representative medals for New South Wales and the Australian national team. Merrin transitioned away from professional rugby in 2021.
Since his retirement, he has engaged in business ventures focusing on cryptocurrency and health.
As noted on his LinkedIn profile, Merrin has been active in investments and business development since 2015, concentrating on blockchain technology, digital assets, and wellness initiatives.
