An Australian Federal Police (AFP) officer has adeptly gained access to a cryptocurrency wallet valued at approximately $6 million.
This wallet was linked to an individual believed to be engaged in organized crime.
During a recent National Press Club address, AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett discussed the operation, highlighting the urgency as police faced the prospect of losing access.

Had the police not intervened before the suspect’s imprisonment, he could have been released with access to millions in cryptocurrencies.
The breakthrough in accessing the wallet came not from sophisticated tech solutions but from a data specialist collaborating with the AFP’s Criminal Assets Confiscation Taskforce.
Initial investigation began with an image comprising numbers and words grouped into six-character formats, totaling over 50 groupings. These appeared arbitrary, yet the officer suspected manual modifications.
Barrett explained that the analyst recognized some irregularities in the sequence, leading to the conclusion that it was not machine-generated but possibly crafted to obscure the authentic access details.
Upon further investigation, the analyst extracted the initial digit from each group, leading to the revelation of a legitimate 24-word recovery phrase.
This critical discovery enabled the police to unlock the wallet, reinforcing Barrett’s assertion that human intuition can triumph where technological methods may not suffice.
