Like many, I find myself drawn to expansive Skyrim mods, particularly those that dramatically extend playtime within Tamriel. A new contender for time consumption has arrived: Lordbound. This mod, the product of a decade’s effort, introduces a completely new region. It’s larger than Solstheim from the Dragonborn DLC and brimming with fresh content.
The mod unfolds in the Druadach Valley, a region nestled between Skyrim and High Rock (the setting of Daggerfall). It presents an opportunity to interact with tribal Orcs, Imperial Legion forces, and aristocratic Breton lords. Think of it as a similar landscape to The Reach, but with a different set of factions. These three groups are central to what is described as “the most extensive main quest ever seen in Skyrim, with choices that shape the valley’s destiny.” The initial situation is as follows:
The Druadach Valley is on the brink of war. After two centuries of isolation, the valley has re-established connections with Skyrim and High Rock, exposing its vulnerability to Tamriel. Chieftain Gorek of Garshakur refuses to cede his mountain stronghold to the Imperial Legion, preventing their control over a crucial trade route linking Jehanna and Solitude.
As conflict escalates, the inhabitants of Druadach seek refuge within Highreach, the domain of young Lord Haelan. However, even this final stronghold is threatened by a mysterious knight, leaving only devastation. Ultimately, the fate of the valley hinges on the actions of both new and established heroes.
The storyline promises to be a complex web of Elder Scrolls lore to unravel through combat and magical abilities. The creators estimate that the main quest, alongside roughly 40 new side quests and 50 dungeons scattered across the valley, will offer approximately 60 hours of gameplay. That’s considerable, considering how long one can spend merely organizing mods within Skyrim!
The mention of “surprising consumables” alongside new equipment does raise questions. What could be considered truly shocking after spending time with Sheogorath? Speculation aside, all NPCs are fully voiced, so answers are likely to be discovered through dialogue.
Be aware that this “soft launch” may include initial issues. According to the Lordbound developers, “We are still actively working on elements of the mod, and some bugs are expected. While the mod is largely playable, further voice acting and additional refinements are needed. We have worked to resolve the major problems, but be prepared to encounter bugs during your adventures (of a different kind from the Chaurus).”
The Skyrim Script Extender and Fuz Ro D-oh – Silent Voice are necessary for proper functionality.
