Great news for fans anticipating Hollow Knight: Silksong! The enigmatic Mr. Mushroom is back! Those who strived to achieve the “Passing of the Age” milestone in the initial Hollow Knight installment will recall the sometimes maddening search for the fungal fellow across the game world. It was quite the task!
While you might think this quest is easy, reaching the final location will severely test your platforming expertise. It might not be as challenging as the Path of Pain, but it certainly comes close.
If you’re looking to sidestep any cryptic clues from Mr. Mushroom, here is a guide to all 7 locations you must visit.
To start this journey, progress to Act 3 and acquire the Silk Soar ability from the Abyss.
Deciphering the Mysterious Poem
Before embarking on your quest to find the peculiar fungus, your initial destination lies in a secretive place, tucked away in a distant corner of the map.
Set course for the Putrified Ducts, go past Fleatopia and travel across the lake. Instead of entering the small cave at the back (where you acquire Craftmetal), leap up the wall until you reach a small ledge bathed in light.
Utilize your soaring ability to ascend to the cave’s apex, revealing a hidden zone reminiscent of the mushroom-filled areas in the original Hollow Knight.
Approach the tablet and read the etched words. This will prompt the game to start Mr. Mushroom’s Quest.
Moss Grotto
First, proceed to Bone Bottom Bellway Station. Go to the far left where the Ruined Chapel stands, then drop downwards. Move a short distance right, spotting the distinct mushrooms akin to those in the Fungal Wastes.
Use your Needolin to make Mr. Mushroom dramatically emerge from the ground, and then speak with him. True to form, he won’t directly communicate with you. Exhaust the conversation options, after which he will burrow away.
Bone Bottom
Your next stop is a familiar one. Fortunately, Mr. Mushroom hasn’t ventured far, materializing on a platform above the town of Bone Bottom, where Shakra once traded maps. Talk with him as you always do, and he will move on.
Far Fields
Now, you must venture to a “Scorched Field.” Head toward Far Fields Bellway Station. Then go down and east to where you completed the spine quest earlier.
Mr. Mushroom will be on a platform to the right of where you completed that volcano ascent. The images provided show the exact location, if you’re unsure.
Greymoor
The clue about “towers spinning” refers to the windmills found in Greymoor. This might be the first tricky location. Go to the Greymoor Bellway Station and through the tower above. At the top, head west to find a tunnel leading to caves above.
Speak with Mr. Mushroom to gain his wisdom. Use soar to reach the Wisp Thicket above. This small area has a tricky boss.
The Slab
The poem alludes to cages. It’s time to return to The Slab. Lovely… The poem is talking about the First Sinner, another boss you might have fought already.
Go to the Slab Bellway Station and enter the lower part of the area you unlocked with the 3rd Slab Key. You should have this key, but if not, you can find it in the Putrified Ducts, close to the house with the Broodfeast Quest Giver. The First Sinner’s fight is tough, but fun to learn. Once completed, you’ll get the Rune Rage silk skill.
Speak to Mr. Mushroom to the left of the cage, and he’ll disappear.
Mount Fay
Mount Fay again? The clue “fell heart of frost” means the large bird that resides at the mountain’s peak. The Faydown Cloak makes this climb easier than the first time.
You can climb the wall to the far right of the area that borders The Slab, and finish the first part of the climb without platforming. Reach the top, and Mr. Mushroom will be there, speaking with the bird.
