A comprehensive preview of Title Update 2, the next free content expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, has been unveiled. During their June Spotlight presentation, Capcom dedicated a significant portion to discussing the upcoming additions, offering a wealth of information for eager hunters.

The official release date for Title Update 2 is set for the early hours of Monday, June 30th. This follows a scheduled maintenance period, during which the game servers will be temporarily offline.

Title Update 2 boasts several key features, each promising to enhance the hunting experience. Foremost among these is the introduction of formidable new monsters: the aquatic Lagiacrus and the returning Seregios.

The arrival of Lagiacrus marks the debut of underwater combat in Monster Hunter Wilds. Hunters will engage this beast in aquatic environments, where weapon access may be limited. To encounter Lagiacrus, players must complete the main story quest “A World Turned Upside Down” and the optional “Forest Doshaguma” quest, which becomes available at Hunter Rank 31 or higher.

Seregios will also be accessible to hunters at Rank 31 and beyond, requiring completion of the same “A World Turned Upside Down” main mission. Defeating both Lagiacrus and Seregios will unlock new armor sets for both hunters and their Palico companions, crafted from the monsters’ unique materials. Challenging Tempered (8-Star) versions of these monsters will also appear in the game world for those at HR 41 or greater.

TU2 will also feature the introduction of Arch-Tempered Uth Duna, available through a special Event Quest and a unique Challenge Quest starting on July 30th. This extremely challenging variant is tailored for hunters at HR 50 and above, offering new craftable equipment as a reward.

Speaking of crafting, Title Update 2 introduces layered weapons, allowing hunters to customize their weapon appearances without affecting their stats. To use a weapon as a layer, players must first craft the final form of a weapon in any tree. Artian Weapons can also be used as layers, provided the desired weapon is fully reinforced and of Rarity 8.

Beyond monster additions and weapon customization, TU2 will include various quality of life improvements. One such feature is the option to change your main handler from Alma to Erik, or enlist an additional support hunter (who uses a Sword & Shield).

Following the update’s launch, the Festival of Accord: Flamefete seasonal event will run from July 23rd to August 6th. This limited-time event allows players to earn new armor, camp decorations, and gestures. The Grand Hub will transform to reflect the festival’s theme, with special event meals available at the cantina.

Capcom has also announced that Title Update 3 is planned for September, and will add a new monster plus the next version of the Festival of Accord.

Title Update 2’s launch comes at a critical moment for Wilds. Capcom’s record-breaking game launch has experienced a decline in player engagement in recent weeks. Steam player counts have dipped below those of Monster Hunter World (2018), and user reviews on Steam are currently overwhelmingly negative.

It remains to be seen whether Title Update 2 can revitalize the game and improve player sentiment.
