Zelda Williams has publicly requested that individuals refrain from sending her artificially intelligent (AI) generated videos designed to imitate her late father, the acclaimed actor Robin Williams.

Robin Williams, remembered for his iconic performances in films such as Dead Poets Society, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Good Morning, Vietnam, sadly passed away in 2014. It was later revealed that he had been battling Lewy body dementia.

According to a report released by the BBC on October 7, Zelda expressed that she has no desire to view digital reproductions of her father and asked that people cease the practice of assuming she would find such creations comforting.

Zelda voiced her disapproval regarding the increasing trend of employing technology to imitate deceased individuals. She specifically criticized the manner in which some users diminish a person’s life’s work to a simple digital representation, either visual or auditory, that bears only a faint resemblance to the original person.

She described this practice as an inappropriate application of creative tools, one which transforms genuine human lives into online material solely for the purpose of generating clicks and capturing attention.

She asserted that these clips lack artistic merit and instead serve as a means of processing and redistributing memories of the past without due consideration or authorization. She emphasized that these AI-produced pieces detract from the inherent human significance of the original creations.

Zelda further dismissed the notion that AI, in this context, represents advancement. She argued that characterizing it as “the future” is inaccurate, as it primarily involves replicating existing works rather than generating something original or possessing genuine value.

The recent introduction of Tily Norwood, an AI-generated character developed by Xicoia, has sparked controversy and drawn condemnation from SAG-AFTRA, the union representing performers in Hollywood. Want to know more? Find out what they said..
