FBI Attributes Binance Breach to North Korea
On October 31, the FBI issued a statement declaring that North Korea was behind the cyber theft of over $6 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance, which occurred on October 29.
According to U.S. officials, a hacker group known as TraderTraitor, associated with North Korea, executed the attack.
The FBI further revealed that the compromised assets were mainly converted into Ethereum (ETH) and there are concerns about potential attempts to launder these funds through decentralized finance (DeFi) networks.
The agency urged cryptocurrency exchanges, blockchain service providers, and DeFi platforms to monitor and restrict any transactions originating from the wallets linked to the perpetrators.
In their investigations after the incident, blockchain analysis firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis also identified connections to North Korean hacker groups.
