The most recent update for Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered includes various modifications and enhancements. Intriguingly, a crucial change related to a door that contradicted established lore wasn’t initially mentioned in the comprehensive patch notes from earlier in the month.
Upon its release in April, it quickly became one of the most talked-about games, especially considering it is essentially a remastered edition of a title nearly two decades old. While many players enjoyed the updated open-world role-playing experience, complete with enhanced graphics and user-friendly improvements, a specific alteration sparked controversy among Elder Scrolls enthusiasts for several months: the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary door included new details that contradicted established lore. Thankfully,
this issue has been quietly addressed in the latest 1.2 patch for Oblivion: Remastered.
PC Gamer has extensively covered the “DOORGATE” controversy, and they
verified that the unsettling Brotherhood door has been corrected following the release of patch 1.2 on Steam through a beta testing phase! Finally, this gaming world upset has been resolved.
In the original Oblivion, the door was distinguished by a menacing red radiance and displayed a depiction of the Night Mother, venerated by the assassin group, in the act of ending the lives of her five children, a critical event within the narrative of the series.
However, upon the remaster’s launch, the famed door underwent a transformation. The signature red glow was removed, and the door’s art now depicted seven children. This alteration prompted speculation. Was Bethesda hinting at a retcon to be explored more deeply in
The Elder Scrolls 6 whenever it releases? Or was it a clue to a new story arc that would be available to learn about within the remastered RPG? As it turns out, it was simply a mistake, and now it has been rectified in update 1.2.
As noticed and documented by the “DOORGATE” authorities at PC Gamer, the Brotherhood’s door is now only showing five children, and that eerie red glow is also back. What a Cyrodiilic blessing! May the Nine Divines be praised! Hopefully, patch 1.2 will preserve this change when it reaches other platforms in the future.
