Openbank, the fully digital banking arm of Grupo Santander, is further developing its investment solutions by integrating trading for major cryptocurrencies.

Effective immediately, Openbank allows its customers to seamlessly buy, sell, and hold Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, Polygon, and Cardano alongside their existing investments. This integrated approach eliminates the need to transfer funds to external platforms, providing a secure and convenient experience backed by Santander’s reputation and the robust investor protections of the European Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).

Openbank plans to expand the selection of supported cryptocurrencies and introduce new features, such as direct conversion between different digital currencies, in the coming months.

Coty de Monteverde, Crypto Division Leader at Grupo Santander, commented: “By incorporating leading cryptocurrencies into our investment platform, we are meeting the expressed needs of our customer base and reinforcing our commitment to offering a comprehensive suite of products and services through a streamlined, technology-driven platform, all supported by a leading global financial institution.”

The new cryptocurrency trading service features competitive transaction fees of 1.49% on both buying and selling assets (with a minimum charge of €1 per transaction) and no custody fees. The service is anticipated to extend to Openbank’s Spanish customers within the next few weeks.

This new service enhances Openbank’s investor offerings in Germany through cutting-edge financial products. The bank already provides an automated investment management service, Robo Advisor; a selection of over 3,000 stocks; access to 3,000+ investment funds from over 120 asset management firms; and a choice of more than 2,000 ETFs. Recently, Openbank also launched a brokerage platform featuring AI-powered tools providing price targets for more than 1,000 European and US stocks.
