Act fast, metalheads! Double Fine’s heavy metal action-adventure, Brütal Legend, originally released on consoles in 2009 and later ported to PC in 2013, is currently available for free, but the offer won’t last long.

In a tribute to the iconic Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath’s legendary frontman who sadly passed away earlier this week, the game developers have made Brütal Legend available at no cost. The game features Ozzy’s voice as a character who interacts with a roadie voiced by Jack Black. This special promotion began overnight (UK time) and is only running for a limited time.

The free claim for Brütal Legend started on the PC gaming platform, Itch.io, as July 23rd transitioned into July 24th (UK time). The deal is set for a duration of precisely 666 minutes, which translates to approximately 11 hours. Therefore, at the time of writing, there is roughly one hour and thirty minutes remaining to snag the game without spending a dime.

You have the option to contribute a tip or donation to the developers during checkout, as Itch.io provides. If you claim the free game, you’ll receive versions compatible with Windows and Ubuntu, as well as both 64-bit and 32-bit Mac versions.

To honor Ozzy’s larger-than-life rock and roll legacy, we’re making Brütal Legend *FREE* on itch.io: doublefine.itch.io/brutal-legend

But this incredible deal will only last for 666 minutes, as the prophecy foretold. So get yourself clicking, before it disappears like a demon in the night…

In Brütal Legend, Osbourne lends his voice to The Guardian of Metal, an ageless keeper of secrets who also provides weapon upgrades within the game. The game also features characters inspired by other music legends such as Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, and Lita Ford, who interact with the main character, Eddie Riggs, voiced by Jack Black, as he navigates combat and real-time strategy elements. The game blends action and strategy, much like the diverse sounds of the bands it features.

Our own Alec had this to say about the PC version in his review:

Brütal Legend is visually stunning and enjoyable to play, but it doesn’t quite reach its full potential. The game is full of great ideas that may seem disjointed in the hands of another developer. However, Double Fine’s signature wit, charm, and strong personality in both the writing and visual style manage to tie the game together.

Don’t delay! Grab this heavy metal experience now and shred in honor of the legendary musician from Birmingham.
