Amazon is rolling out a fresh innovation that combines visual search capabilities with the power of artificial intelligence (AI). It’s called Lens Live and promises to change how people shop.

This innovative AI-driven tool enables shoppers to instantly find products simply by pointing their smartphone’s camera at items they encounter in the real world.

This new feature enhances Amazon’s existing image search functionality, known as Amazon Lens, which already empowers users to discover items by uploading images or scanning barcodes.

The function is tailored to mirror modern shopping habits, where individuals frequently explore products in physical stores and then compare prices online.

Amazon’s AI-powered assistant, Rufus, is integrated into the experience. Rufus presents concise product summaries and suggests relevant follow-up inquiries to deepen the user’s understanding of the item.

This empowers shoppers with rapid access to supplementary product information without requiring them to exit the camera view or navigate through numerous web pages.

Technically, Lens Live operates using Amazon’s robust cloud infrastructure. It utilizes SageMaker for machine learning tasks and OpenSearch to facilitate swift product identification. These systems collaborate seamlessly in the background to guarantee accurate matches and a responsive user experience.

Upon its initial release, Lens Live is exclusively available on iOS devices and restricted to users within the United States. Amazon has yet to announce a schedule for expanding the feature to Android or international users.
