Reviewing a video game in isolation can be tricky, especially when trying to gauge how it will be generally received. While educated guesses are possible, predicting the reaction to a *Silent Hill* title is notoriously difficult, given the series’ history of widely varying opinions. After my own deep dive and personal critique, I found myself quite captivated by Silent Hill f. However, producer Motoi Okamoto recently stated in an interview that, while reception was largely positive, future installments won’t necessarily follow the same formula.

Speaking with IGN Japan at last month’s Tokyo Game Show (with translation provided by Automaton), Okamoto revealed his expectation for a more polarized response to the game, due to its uniquely “challenging” aspects. He then clarified that this doesn’t signal a future of carbon copies. Each upcoming *Silent Hill* will offer its own distinct experience. The team aims to continue experimenting and embracing ambition in both gameplay mechanics and narrative direction. He encourages anticipation for what comes next in the franchise.

Okamoto reinforced this point on Bitter, emphasizing the desire for boldness and fresh gameplay experiences in each new release. He also acknowledged the importance of maintaining a core element of the series. He said that Psychological stories are essential to what makes a Silent Hill game feel like Silent Hill and that they will continue to greatly focus on this in their future works.

My own evaluation of *Silent Hill f* involved grappling with the question of the series’ contemporary relevance and its capacity to offer something new. Ultimately, I concluded that it does indeed have something to offer. So, despite some initial skepticism, I’m definitely eager to see where the franchise heads next.
