Czech authorities have apprehended Tomas Jirikovsky, the individual who established the illicit online marketplace known as Sheep Marketplace. This arrest is connected to a Bitcoin transaction that has stirred controversy surrounding the departure of Pavel Blazek, the former Minister of Justice in the Czech Republic.

On August 14th, Chief State Prosecutor Radim Dragoun issued a statement indicating that law enforcement officials were actively “securing individuals and assets.” He clarified that this particular matter had been separated from other ongoing investigations to be handled as a distinct case.

While the official announcement refrained from confirming any specific arrests, Deník N identified Jirikovsky as the individual taken into custody. During the police operation, he reportedly attempted to flee by accessing the roof of his residence; however, he was ultimately apprehended.
Jirikovsky is widely recognized as the founder of Sheep Marketplace, a digital storefront that facilitated the trade of illegal substances, weaponry, and counterfeit products. According to reports published by Seznam Zprávy, he purportedly accumulated around 680 BTC through his management of the site, which was launched in 2013 when the price of Bitcoin hovered around $100.
Following the marketplace’s closure, Jirikovsky allegedly misappropriated an additional 841 BTC from its user base, encompassing both buyers and vendors. This act purportedly brought his total Bitcoin holdings to a minimum of 1,500 BTC. These activities have been a longstanding subject of scrutiny and public discourse.
