Great news for gamers who enjoy gaming on an ultrawide monitor! The eagerly awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong, launching soon, will offer built-in support for extra-wide displays up to 21:9. Unlike its predecessor, no tweaking or workarounds needed! Matthew Griffin, part of the Silksong marketing team, shared screenshots on social media (Xitter), showing it working flawlessly without the custom solutions required by the first Hollow Knight to properly fit those expansive screens.
While ultrawide setups might not be the majority, the recent Steam hardware survey suggests that less than 4% of players use the most common 21:9 resolutions like 2560×1080 or 3440×1440, supporting these niche setups is a hallmark of PC gaming. Silksong’s native ultrawide support from launch suggests the game was designed with it in mind. This is a good thing because forcing ultrawide on games not designed for it can expose visual flaws at the edges of the screen, like unloaded level sections or characters with incomplete animations, which are hidden on standard 16:9 displays.
This is the second positive tech update for Silksong in recent days. The game was also quietly given Steam Deck Verified status on its Steam page. This was largely expected since the original ran well on the Steam Deck. Silksong seems visually enhanced (and I think it is more visually appealing), but doesn’t seem to push the hardware demands significantly. Ironically, the first game didn’t support the Steam Deck’s 16:10 aspect ratio natively. I forgot to check this when I previewed Silksong at Gamescom, but if it can handle 21:9, you would think 16:10 would be easily implemented.
We will know for sure when Silksong is released (Thursday, September 4th), ending the long wait and dismissing any remaining doubts about its release. Find the exact launch times here.
