Just a little over two months after its launch, the Switch 2 is proving to be a considerable success for Nintendo. According to their Q1 financial report, covering the period ending June 30th, the company moved 6 million Switch 2 consoles worldwide in the initial seven weeks. This strong performance has resulted in several sales milestones being surpassed.

Since its release, the hybrid console has enjoyed high demand, even exceeding Nintendo’s initial projections. The manufacturer maintains its forecast of selling 15 million Switch 2 units during the current fiscal year, which concludes in March 2026. In addition, Nintendo sold 0.98 million original Switch consoles, bringing the total lifetime sales of that model to an impressive 153.10 million units.

Switch 2 lifetime sales to date

“Currently, across numerous regions, the demand for Nintendo Switch 2 outstrips the available supply. We sincerely apologize for any frustration this may cause to our customers,” stated Nintendo. “We are actively working to bolster both our production capacity and distribution networks to ensure we can deliver as many Nintendo Switch 2 consoles as possible to meet consumer needs.”

On the software front, Nintendo is also experiencing a successful period, reporting total game sales of 8.67 million units. The standout title was Mario Kart World, which accounted for 5.63 million units sold. This impressive performance is likely due to its availability as part of a console bundle.

Looking forward, there are many compelling reasons to purchase a Switch 2 in the coming months, with exclusive titles like Drag X Drive, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A all on the horizon. This week, Nintendo also presented a Direct presentation showcasing upcoming games from various third-party publishers and developers. While there weren’t many major surprises, several exciting games are slated for release, including Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, Octopath Traveler 0, and Borderlands 4.
