Notably, this anthology marks the U.S. home media debut for the remastered versions of “Mouse Cleaning” and “Casanova Cat”. These episodes have faced controversy due to racially insensitive depictions. While they were initially planned for inclusion in “Tom and Jerry: The Golden Collection Volume Two,” that particular release faced cancellation. Historically, Warner Archive has addressed problematic content through disclaimers, acknowledging the historical context and the potentially offensive nature of the jokes within these shorts.

For those eager to dive into the feline-and-mouse mayhem before December, several other Tom and Jerry collections await. “Tom and Jerry: The Complete Cinemascope Collection” brings together all 23 of their CinemaScope widescreen adventures, along with three extra animated shorts. Experience classic Tom and Jerry animation at its finest, with incredibly detailed visuals and Tom’s endless pursuit of Jerry, often facing comically cruel repercussions.

Each short has been carefully remastered to enhance color vibrancy and refine audio quality. Although some imperfections may remain, these remasters represent a considerable upgrade over previous VHS and DVD releases. The collection also includes three bonus shorts created by the minds behind Tom and Jerry, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera: “Good Will to Men” (1955), “Give and Tyke” (1957), and “Scat Cats” (1957).

Another solid choice is the “Tom and Jerry: The Spotlight Collection on DVD,” now available for a discounted price of $14.45 (originally $38). Featuring a four-disc set with a total of 112 cartoons, this collection covers a broad range of Tom and Jerry’s history, from their earliest shorts, when Tom was still known as Jasper, to beloved classic episodes. Note that this version omits the audio commentary tracks but still includes several special features like behind-the-scenes content, documentaries, and deleted scenes.

If you’re a fan of classic animation, don’t miss the “Peanuts: 75th Anniversary Ultimate TV Specials Collection”, available for $85 and scheduled to release on October 7th. This collection encompasses 40 Peanuts animated specials, spanning from the very first in 1965 to 2011. All specials have been remastered in 1080p, and the five-disc set features a 28-page booklet packed with artwork and trivia about each special.
