Exploring Towns (TOWNS)
Towns is a novel, publicly accessible, and decentralized messaging system operating on the Base network. Towns empowers users to establish and oversee adaptable communication environments referred to as “Spaces.” These Spaces offer functionalities such as completely encrypted messaging, on-blockchain membership management, and adaptable access limitations. The core aim is to furnish communities with total dominion over their information, privacy protocols, and interaction strategies, eliminating the need for central management.
This protocol leverages an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible Layer 2 framework, decentralized off-chain data pathways, and intelligent contracts. Notably, Towns Protocol successfully secured $10 million in a Series B investment round during April of 2025. The funding was spearheaded by a16z crypto, alongside notable contributions from Coinbase Ventures and Benchmark.
