In the Silent Hill series, the initial brain-teasers are generally straightforward, but the complexity ramps up as you progress. Silent Hill f adheres to this pattern. You’ll encounter your first challenge roughly thirty minutes into your gameplay, and it’s relatively manageable.
Your journey begins in a dim shrine. You’re confined inside, facing an altar adorned with various objects. The game provides a prayer inscription—essentially a guide—indicating your next task: placing each item on the altar to complete a ritual without knowing the importance behind it.
Placing the objects in their correct positions will initiate a cinematic and subsequently, a frantic escape. You must flee the room before succumbing to madness. The puzzle’s exact components are intentionally left ambiguous, and the reason for it isn’t clear until much later in the game.

Story Difficulty
Look at the Knots
On the Story difficulty, the solution is quite direct. You simply need to position each object on the platform that matches the item’s knot design.
For instance, the bamboo fan features a sophisticated knot encased within two circles. You’ll find a corresponding block with the identical knot etched into its surface; place the fan there. After correctly arranging all items, the altar should appear as depicted below:
Hard Difficulty
Look at the Patterns
Even on Hard difficulty, this puzzle doesn’t present an overwhelming challenge, since you receive the same prayer inscription from the Story difficulty, but its elements are somewhat less obvious. Here, you’re aligning the patterns shown on the blocks with the corresponding patterns on the items.
For example, the kimono is decorated with plum blossoms, so you would place it on the block bearing a similar blossom etching. Simply position the kimono on the blossom block, and the remaining placements will follow this pattern. The only exception is the mouse wrapped in leaves, which doesn’t feature a unique pattern, however, it is relatively easy to place as there is only one block with leaves on it.

Lost in the Fog Difficulty
A Classic, Head-scratching Riddle
Immediately, Lost in the Fog provides little in the way of guidance. Instead of a standard prayer, you receive a perplexing riddle that you must decipher. You’ll need to align each object with its corresponding line in the riddle, though it is easy to mix a couple of items up.
For example, one might incorrectly assign Kudzu to the bottle; however, a close examination of the bottle’s base reveals a Chrysanthemum carving, indicating its unique role in the riddle.
It is actually relatively easy to get a couple of them mixed up, particularly if the user is not aware that, in traditional wedding photos, the groom is positioned to the left of his bride.
