A far-reaching initiative for Africa, focusing on expanding knowledge and groundbreaking ideas in blockchain technology across sixteen nations within the Middle East and Africa.

Orange Middle East and Africa is teaming up with The Hashgraph Association and Dar Blockchain to spearhead the Hedera Africa Hackathon. This collaborative effort aims to boost the use of blockchain technology and inspire novel digital solutions throughout the area.

Kicked off on August 1, 2025, this program will unite more than 10,000 developers, business founders, and tech enthusiasts from 16 different countries. This hybrid hackathon is all about crafting powerful blockchain solutions. The program boasts over $1 million in prize money, with high expectations of fueling innovation and growing skills in the realm of decentralized tech on the continent.

Scaling Up Blockchain Education

A key part of this initiative involves a certification program centered on Hedera technology, rolled out across Orange Digital Centers (ODCs) located in both the Middle East and Africa.

The online course has been designed to increase the knowledge of Web3 and distributed ledger technologies among young professionals and business owners, providing them the required technical expertise to participate in the hackathon.

This project mirrors Orange’s ongoing dedication to ensuring everyone has access to digital resources and reflects its broader goal of nurturing future tech leaders in Africa. The Hashgraph Association, a Swiss nonprofit promoting the Hedera network, along with Dar Blockchain, a hub for Web3 activities throughout Africa, will lend their expertise to the training’s technical and strategic aspects.

A Hybrid Hackathon Spanning 16 Nations

The Hedera Africa Hackathon will happen both online and in-person at Orange Digital Centers. Those taking part will have access to facilities, advice from mentors, and chances to connect with experts from the industry.

Jointly organized with the Exponential Science Foundation, the core of the competition lies in creating practical applications using the Hedera network – everything from digital IDs to clear supply chains and reliable financial services.

The organizers are emphasizing that the goal of the event is not just rewarding innovation but also developing a sustainable source of skilled blockchain professionals throughout Africa and the Middle East.
