Let’s be honest, it all comes down to one thing: bananas. Indeed, one might even exclaim, “What a bunch of bananas!” Naturally, Donkey Kong Bananza shines due to its interactive environments, the sheer fun of moving around, and the diverse abilities linked to your “bananza” transformations – all the core elements that make a game great. But it also captivates because of Donkey Kong’s fresh appearance. He now projects less of the shrewdness seen in the Donkey Kong Country series and more of a genuine, carefree spirit filled with enthusiasm and unwavering affection, both for bananas and for his companion, Pauline.
There are moments when Pauline’s self-assurance wavers, and she gazes into Donkey Kong’s big, kind face. Seeing his unwavering belief inspires her to sing out. It reminds me that we all need that friend whose affection and faith in us are so uncomplicated and authentic that just looking into their eyes allows us to see ourselves as they do. Suddenly, all our insecurities and doubts vanish. What a remarkable character! I’m delighted he’s returned in what could easily be his most exceptional adventure yet. — Carolyn Petit
