As the UK working week draws to a close, we deliver some less-than-cheery news: the eagerly anticipated full release of Building Relationships, a quirky game centered around a house seeking romance with other structures, has been pushed back to early 2026.

Yes, the wait for more playful flirting with a windmill will be a bit longer than expected. Perhaps articles should come with embedded tissues for such news.

Developer Tanat Boozayaangool explained the decision in a Steam update, stating, “It was a difficult choice, but I want to dedicate more time to refine the narrative and ensure a polished, fluid experience. I aim to craft a compelling story, but currently, the development feels rushed. I’m grateful for the community’s support and the opportunities it has provided.”

Boozayaangool continued, “Evaluating the project as a whole, it requires further development. This extended timeline will also allow the team to address bugs, optimize performance, and enhance accessibility features, guaranteeing the best possible version of Building Relationships at launch. Rest assured, the end is within reach: the core storyline is complete, and the plot is established – it simply needs a final touch.”

Accompanying the announcement was a teaser image depicting the player’s house alongside a windmill in a serene garden. Adding to the anticipation, despite the delay.

The Steam demo for Building Relationships remains available if you’re curious. Several writers have also covered the game: Oisin covered it during Next Fest when both of them were contributors at VG247, while Edwin and Nic have also shared their thoughts on Rock Paper Shotgun. Here’s a key takeaway from Edwin’s article:

Building Relationships distinguishes itself through its self-assuredness and originality. It’s not every day you get the chance to woo an apartment building. The game offers a small, open world with quirky physics where you move around, interact with bungalows, and complete simple objectives like fishing for cars. It’s a game that revels in puns, promising a delightful experience, and delivers pleasantly absurd writing and a unique visual style.

Now, it’s time to find a distraction involving less architectural romance until the game is released in early 2026.
