The latest installment in the AI: Somnium Files universe made its debut recently, offering a more compact experience than its predecessors. Titled No Sleep for Kaname Date, this adventure serves as an interlude, bridging the narratives of the original AI: The Somnium Files and its sequel, AI: The Somnium Files -Nirvana Initiative-. Fans will be delighted by the return of the series’ original protagonist, Kaname Date.
This time, Kaname Date embarks on a mission to rescue the beloved idol Iris after she is inexplicably abducted by a UFO. To survive, Iris must navigate a series of intricate escape room challenges. With Kazuya Yamada at the helm as director and the original series creator, Uchikoshi, providing supervision, No Sleep for Kaname Date incorporates brain-teasing escape room puzzles reminiscent of the Zero Escape franchise, also conceived by Uchikoshi. These cleverly designed scenarios add depth and substance to No Sleep for Kaname Date despite it’s streamlined length.
How long is No Sleep for Kaname Date?
No Sleep for Kaname presents players with five chapters to explore, enriched by a variety of “dead-end” endings that alter the course of the narrative.
Within the game, you’ll delve into “Somniums” – distinct from the escape rooms – which serve as intricate puzzles demanding resolution to advance the storyline. During these Somnium investigations, time is of the essence, so it won’t be possible to scrutinize every single item. However, thorough exploration will reward you with “eyeballs,” an in-game currency redeemable for bonus content upon completing the main narrative. Rest assured, there are absolutely no real-world microtransactions involved. You can also acquire additional eyeballs by uncovering collectibles scattered throughout the game world.
The unlockable bonus content includes concept art and exciting “alternate alternate endings.” Each unlock requires a certain amount of eyeballs, and some bonuses may only become available after you’ve discovered specific alternate endings within the core story.
Unlocking all alternate endings will require replaying certain chapters, Somniums, and escape room puzzles, but a user-friendly flowchart clearly identifies chapters containing alternate endings, eliminating the need for aimless searching.
On average, a complete playthrough of No Sleep for Kaname Date will consume around 12 to 15 hours, dependent on your proficiency in solving escape puzzles.
How many Achievements does No Sleep for Kaname Date have?
No Sleep for Kaname Date is currently available on the Nintendo Switch and Steam platforms. While the Switch version lacks an achievement system, the Steam version fully supports achievements. Given the game’s shorter length compared to other titles in the series, acquiring all achievements on Steam should take around an additional five hours.
Is No Sleep for Kaname Date on PlayStation or Xbox?
Currently, No Sleep for Kaname Date is exclusively available on Switch and Steam. While the preceding two games graced all major platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox, there has been no announcement regarding a PlayStation or Xbox release for No Sleep for Kaname Date.

However, that doesn’t preclude developer Spike Chunsoft from potentially porting the game to other platforms in the future. For instance, 2023’s Master Detective Archives: Rain Code initially launched as a Switch exclusive before expanding to other platforms a little over a year later. Considering the history of AI: The Somnium Files, a future release of No Sleep for Kaname Date on additional platforms remains a distinct possibility.
No Sleep for Kaname Date – From AI: The Somnium Files was released on July 25 for Switch/Switch 2 and PC.
