Eager to explore New Game Plus in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers? This popular mode found in many soulslike and RPG titles allows players to relive their journey, carrying over hard-earned items and progress from their initial playthrough. However, Wuchang implements this feature with some unexpected twists. Just a heads-up: the following contains minor spoilers.
Understanding New Game Plus in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
The New Game Plus feature unlocks as soon as you finish the main story and witness any ending. After the credits conclude, the game boots you back to the main menu. Although we can’t show you a screenshot at this moment, you’ll find an option labeled “Causality Reversal,” which is Wuchang’s in-game term for New Game Plus.
Is Initiating New Game Plus the Right Choice?
Here’s where things get interesting: After defeating the final boss, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers essentially forces you into New Game Plus.
Selecting “Causality Reversal,” “Continue,” or even “Load Game” all lead you straight back to the game’s opening sequence, starting a New Game Plus run. Even more surprisingly, your original save data is overwritten in the process!
This design choice can be frustrating, especially if you missed collectibles or skills during your first run. It also differs from the standard New Game Plus implementation in other games, where players can usually access New Game Plus from the main menu while still retaining their original save file.
Circumventing New Game Plus: Is It Possible?
If you’d prefer to hold off on New Game Plus in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, creating a backup of your save file before finishing the main story is crucial. Here’s how we accomplished this on the PC (Steam) version:
- Before reaching an ending, we exited the game to create a save state backup.
- The relevant files/folders are located in the “C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Project_Plague” directory.
- Copy the entire “Saved” folder and store it in a different location.
To revert to your original save, simply move the “Saved” folder back into the “Project_Plague” directory, overwriting the existing files. Then, launch Wuchang and select “Load Game” from the main menu.
The save file might show “Causality Reversal 1” (indicating New Game +1), but that shouldn’t be an issue. This is primarily due to the cloud saving system. Loading this save should put you back in the game at the same point where you left off.

What Remains, What Changes in New Game Plus?
Here’s a breakdown of what to expect in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers’ New Game Plus mode:
- You retain all your acquired gear, Red Mercury, unlocked skills, spells, temperance needles, and similar items.
- Enemies pose a greater challenge than before.
- Jade Pendants and Benedictions you discover now have a +1 coefficient, amplifying their effects.
- Merchants offer the same inventory as before. Items that can’t be duplicated (such as spells) remain unavailable for purchase.
- Finding items that can’t be duplicated (like Manna Vase upgrades or spells) will grant you Red Mercury-related materials instead.
- Panda Bamboozlings/Bamboo Shoots and Inner Demons that you defeated previously will respawn in their original locations, allowing you to gather more of their rewards.
- Quest items must be reacquired. You can attempt quests you may have missed the first time.
