Elon Musk’s AI firm, xAI, has entered into a $200 million agreement with the United States Department of Defense.

The company will be delivering AI-powered instruments intended for utilization by government personnel, spanning both military and civilian roles.

The contract’s existence was publicly disclosed by the Department’s Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) on July 14th. According to their statement, the primary objective is to integrate cutting-edge AI technologies across a spectrum of functions, ranging from strategic military planning to routine administrative tasks.

Dr. Doug Matty, who leads the CDAO, remarked that these innovative tools will contribute to enhancements in the Department’s support for its personnel and its capacity to anticipate and counter international threats.

He clarified that the integration of AI solutions from private enterprises will expedite governmental processes and introduce state-of-the-art technology into domains like defense, intelligence gathering, business operations, and data management systems.

In a press announcement issued on July 14th, xAI stated its dedication to developing technologies that empower individuals in learning and problem-solving. The company also unveiled “Grok for Government,” which is a package of AI resources encompassing Grok 4 and Deep Search functionalities.

xAI also emphasized the crucial role of public sector investment in scientific and technological advancements. They acknowledged that robust backing in these fields has been instrumental in enabling the company’s progress and expressed their ambition to reciprocate by contributing to national initiatives.
