Strategy shares surged to $137.40 as Bitcoin (BTC) exceeded the $80,000 mark. Amid this, Peter Schiff reiterated his “death spiral” concerns, while Michael Saylor responded with an optimistic video.
Highlights:
- MSTR reached $137.40 during Bitcoin’s latest climb past $80,000.
- Schiff suggested that short-covering could be behind the stock boom and upheld his “death spiral” theory.
- Saylor shared an AI-generated video of himself on a bull as a counterpoint.
MSTR Surge
MSTR experienced a significant rise on Thursday as Strategy enjoyed a rebound that started in early August, paralleling Bitcoin’s upward trajectory. Schiff expressed doubt about the sustainability of this rally, speculating that it may have been propelled by short sellers closing their positions.
On X, Schiff stated, “I’m uncertain about the reasons behind today’s sharp $MSTR rally, but I suspect short-covering plays a major role.”
He maintained his “death spiral” theory, noting that while the temporary Bitcoin rally has extended Strategy’s “life expectancy,” significant issues remain. His concerns center on the company’s obligations regarding preferred stock dividends, which are partially covered by issuing new shares.

Schiff’s Alert
In contrast, Saylor adopted a more positive stance during the stock’s rise. The chairman of Strategy showcased an AI-generated video of himself riding a bull in Spain, captioning it, “Ride the ₿ull.”
This exchange highlights a broader debate about the capital structure of Strategy in relation to Bitcoin.
Schiff views the company’s obligations concerning preferred stock and reliance on equity issuance as potential risks if Bitcoin declines. In contrast, Saylor consistently connects the firm’s future to confidence in the cryptocurrency.
The recent uptrend has alleviated worries about the possibility of Strategy needing to liquidate Bitcoin for obligations, a risk linked to its capital access and Bitcoin valuation.
Schiff has reiterated similar points for over a year, labeling MSTR a scam previously and warning that its preferred stock arrangements could lead to a “death spiral.” His recent remarks echo those longstanding claims, coinciding with the surge in both MSTR and Bitcoin.
