Solana has confirmed that XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) is now live on its platform, establishing a first-time connection between two of the largest ecosystems in cryptocurrency. XRP is available on Solana as wXRP, a wrapped token issued by Hex Trust, supported by a 1:1 custody system, and involving LayerZero, with liquidity exceeding $100 million at launch. It can be accessed on Jupiter, Phantom, Titan Exchange, and Meteora as of today.
This announcement coincides with the XRP price surpassing $1.50 for the first time since February. A recent surge in the market followed Iran’s declaration of the Strait of Hormuz being open and a over a 10% drop in oil prices. XRP previously struggled at $1.45 earlier this year, and it took both the Solana integration and a shift in geopolitical conditions to break through that barrier.
Understanding wXRP: XRP’s Functionality on Solana
wXRP represents a wrapped version of XRP that operates on the Solana network. Each wXRP token is equivalent to one native XRP stored securely with Hex Trust, a regulated custodian located in Hong Kong.
Owners of wXRP can convert it back to actual XRP on the XRP Ledger whenever they choose. This backing is maintained through a mint-and-burn mechanism, where new wXRP can only be created when an equivalent amount of XRP is put into custody, and it is burned upon redemption.
The link between the two chains functions on LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard, offering a more secure alternative to unregulated bridges which have a history of hacks. In 2025, LayerZero facilitated over 85 million cross-chain messages, allowing wXRP seamless transitions between Solana and other chains, including Ethereum, Optimism, and HyperEVM, without third-party risks.
XRP has traditionally served as a payment asset, enabling swift and inexpensive cross-border transactions on its own network. However, its ecosystem for decentralized finance (DeFi) has lagged compared to other platforms. In contrast, Solana currently handles more than 30 million transactions each day and boasts one of the most active DeFi ecosystems in the crypto space, with billions in daily trading volume across a multitude of protocols.
With wXRP, users can now engage in trading on Jupiter, provide liquidity through Meteora, utilize Phantom wallet, and access Titan Exchange—all within the Solana ecosystem. Additionally, wXRP has the ability to trade against Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin across supported networks, marking a collaborative effort across chains rather than being limited to just the XRP Ledger.
XRP’s Surge to $1.50: What You Need to Know
The cryptocurrency market has mostly been caught in a cycle of fear since February, when tensions escalated in the U.S.-Iran situation and oil prices surged above $100 per barrel. Efforts to rally during this time have often failed, with XRP itself stalling at $1.45 on three separate occasions as sellers who purchased between $1.45 and $1.47 in January continued to sell to recoup losses.
However, this narrative shifted today following Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announcing the full opening of the Strait of Hormuz, which came after a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon. In this context, oil prices plummeted over 10% in just a few hours, and Bitcoin leveraged this momentum, breaking above $77,000 for the first time since February, thereby raising the entire crypto market.
XRP experienced an over 5% increase today, climbing to $1.50 and outpacing Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. While the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz provided a market boost, XRP’s rise was further fueled by the announced integration with Solana. Thus, instead of relying solely on broader market trends, XRP had the unique advantage of this partnership, facilitating its climb past the $1.50 mark.
Key Levels Following XRP’s Breakout at $1.50
Surpassing the $1.50 mark is significant, especially considering XRP had encountered resistance at this level multiple times. But this breakthrough does not guarantee the challenges ahead are resolved. XRP is now trading above its 50-day EMA at $1.40, a favorable sign after being positioned below it for an extended period. The 100-day EMA, which sits at $1.55, has not been breached since February. If XRP manages to exceed and maintain a position above $1.55, it would represent the most uplifting sign for this asset this year.
Further, the 200-day EMA is located around $1.80, a crucial threshold that could signify a major shift. XRP experienced a decline of over 27% in Q1, and only a sustained breakout above $1.80 would confirm that this downward trend is officially reversed.
For XRP to climb to higher price points, several factors need to align simultaneously. Anticipation for the CLARITY Act markup is building for late April, with the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran slated to end on April 22, and Bitcoin must maintain its position above $77,000 to support the ongoing rally.
If these elements fall into place, the $1.50 level may transition from being resistance to support, enabling XRP to target $1.55 and subsequently $1.80. Conversely, any unraveling in the ceasefire or delays in the CLARITY Act could cause XRP’s price to drop back to $1.30 or lower.
Is the Solana Integration a Pivotal Shift for XRP?
XRP’s launch on Solana positions it within a thriving $6.6 billion DeFi ecosystem, moving beyond reliance on its own ledger, which ranks lower in terms of DeFi activity. This integration introduces exciting new use cases for XRP that extend past just cross-border payments, allowing it to thrive independently from banking systems.
The critical factor now is how developments unfold in the coming weeks. The ceasefire is scheduled to end on April 22, potential movement on the CLARITY Act could happen at any moment, and Bitcoin’s stability will be necessary to carry the broader market upward. Should all three elements align positively, XRP at $1.50 might just be the beginning, setting the stage for a reassessment towards its previous cycle high of $3.65.
