(TNND) — Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, is making his foray into the world of cryptocurrency with the launch of a meme coin called $LAPTOP. This name alludes to the laptop that became a contentious topic during the 2020 election.
Biden unveiled the upcoming release in a video shared on social media on Monday, featuring a montage of news reports and political figures discussing the laptop.
This announcement comes on the heels of Biden’s Substack article released in July, wherein he questioned the laptop’s origins and the validity of its chain of custody, while also admitting it contained documents from a time when he faced addiction issues.
As reported by The Wall Street Journal, the coin seems to be partially directed at former President Donald Trump, a longtime rival of the Biden family.
The token is set to launch on Tuesday via Base, the blockchain network created by Coinbase. Meme coins are typically fueled by online buzz and speculation, without a tangible product or business backing them.
The laptop first made headlines just weeks before the 2020 election, igniting fierce discussions regarding its content and authenticity.
Later, Republicans utilized information from it to scrutinize Hunter Biden’s international business activities.
