$SAND, the main cryptocurrency of The Sandbox platform, encountered substantial selling pressure after reports surfaced about a possible vulnerability allowing unlimited minting of tokens. Early indications suggested that an unauthorized individual had accessed the ability to mint $SAND, potentially producing an unrestricted number of new tokens. As of now, The Sandbox team has not yet validated these claims or the scope of the incident.

Social media platforms and online activity trackers have indicated that more than 500 million $SAND tokens may have been minted through this security flaw. If substantiated, this could signify a grave security compromise that might directly influence the overall token supply.

Market reactions surged following these allegations, with the price of $SAND decreasing by roughly 5.5% in a swift movement. Additionally, open interest in futures options reportedly spiked by about 16% within just one hour. Trading volumes soared to nearly 24 times the usual levels, reflecting intense market participation.

Nevertheless, a notable shift in funding rates toward negative figures suggests a considerable buildup of short positions within the market.
