Trading Volumes on Crypto Exchanges Surge in Five Days

In the last five days, trading activity on cryptocurrency platforms has surged, with volumes doubling as Bitcoin (CRYPTO: $BTC) and Ethereum (CRYPTO: $ETH) prices jumped significantly.

Recent trading figures indicate that cryptocurrency transactions hit $37 billion over the previous week, marking a twofold increase, spurred by a 24% rise in BTC and a 34% hike in ETH prices, fueled by an unexpected market breakout.

Despite this sharp increase, current trading volumes still lag significantly behind the 12-month peak of $105 billion set last October when Bitcoin achieved an all-time high of slightly above $126,000.

Prominent cryptocurrency exchanges include Coinbase Global (NASDAQ: $COIN), Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: $HOOD), and Gemini (NASDAQ: $GEMI).

Monthly trading activity is on the rise, currently estimated at $490 billion for August, in contrast to $670 billion for the entire month of July.

This spike in trading comes as Bitcoin and Ethereum prices experience a surge, motivated by various recent developments in the digital asset market.

Last week, former U.S. President Donald Trump urged Congress to enact the Clarity Act, which aims to create a regulatory framework for digital assets.

In addition, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has taken measures to intervene in the bond market to reduce government note yields, creating a more favorable environment for riskier assets like cryptocurrencies.

On August 24, Bitcoin was trading at just below $80,000. In the past week, shares in cryptocurrency exchanges such as COIN, HOOD, and GEMI have each climbed over 10%.
