As legislative discussions gained momentum once more, it was already late in the congressional session. Lobbyists and lawmakers were acutely aware that upcoming elections would hinder bipartisan efforts. Central to these talks was the ethics issue, a crucial matter that needed resolution for progress on other fronts.

Throughout the negotiations, President Trump made concessions on two occasions, including a set of revisions proposed over the weekend. However, based on comments from Gallego, a primary Democratic negotiator, it appeared these adjustments fell short.

“President Trump is merely looking for the Senate to provide him with opportunities for misconduct, and I cannot endorse any legislation that facilitates that,” declared the Arizona senator.

Throughout the discussions, Gallego and fellow Democrats distanced themselves from Senator Elizabeth Warren, a leading voice on the Senate Banking Committee, who advocated for strong resistance against Clarity. She maintained her stance, consistently highlighting the connections between Trump and the cryptocurrency sector, which reportedly earned him over a billion dollars in his second term’s first year.

“I’m confident we can achieve crypto legislation that receives bipartisan support. However, this bill is not the solution,” she stated on the Senate floor on Tuesday. “This legislation will only accelerate Donald Trump’s unparalleled corruption.”
