A consortium comprising nine companies has pledged a collective investment of $15 million over three years to bolster research and development in Bitcoin security and open-source initiatives.

The newly established Bitcoin Security Consortium features prominent players in the cryptocurrency industry, including BlackRock, Coinbase, Strategy, Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, Block, Blockstream, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Galaxy.

This group will concentrate on enhancing Bitcoin’s resilience against emerging quantum computing technologies and will release regular updates on the progress of Bitcoin security initiatives for both investors and the general public.

Rather than manage or distribute the funds directly, consortium members will determine which developers, researchers, or organizations to support with the funding. The consortium clarified that it will not steer Bitcoin’s development or endorse any proposed changes to protocols.

“The work done by Bitcoin Core developers is extremely valuable,” stated Robert Mitchnick, head of digital assets at BlackRock, emphasizing that this initiative would provide additional resources to ensure Bitcoin’s future security.

No specific details regarding individual contributions, initial beneficiaries, or the portion of funding representing new commitments were disclosed in the announcement.
