U.S. Vice President JD Vance announced that Washington will not engage in conversations with Tehran unless Iran ceases its assaults on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
During a press conference at the White House today, Vance revealed that around 15 million barrels of oil traversed the Strait of Hormuz yesterday. He asserted that one factor contributing to elevated gasoline prices is Iran’s hostile actions towards shipping.
Vance mentioned that the U.S. has implemented various measures to intensify pressure on Iran to halt its attacks on commercial ships. He advised, “My suggestion to the Iranians is to act responsibly and refrain from targeting commercial vessels.”
He also highlighted that Washington has more strategies available to counter Iran, some of which could be utilized by President Donald Trump, while others remain inactive for now.
Additionally, Vance pointed out that maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has largely stabilized to levels seen before recent conflicts. However, he stressed that diplomatic discussions will not commence if Iran continues its aggressions against shipping. He clarified that the U.S. is not currently engaging in a “large-scale military operation” against Iran.
