Sui (CRYPTO: SUI) has dipped back under $1, even following a remarkable 31% surge over the past month as of October 17, 2026. This sparks a crucial debate for investors: Is Sui a more advantageous investment compared to XRP?

As of October 18, Sui is trading at approximately $0.98, down 10.7% over the last week. The coin’s price saw substantial fluctuations in September, rising from a low of $0.67 to a peak of $1.29.

Conversely, XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) is currently priced at $1.30, down 6.9% for the week. Its value has been relatively consistent, with only about a 1% change over the past month. With Sui’s recent momentum dwindling and XRP maintaining its position, which cryptocurrency presents a better prospect for investors moving forward?

Sui’s $4 Billion Market Capitalization Compared to XRP’s $82 Billion

Market capitalization is determined by multiplying the price of a coin by the total number of coins available. As of October 18, Sui’s market capitalization stands at about $4 billion, whereas XRP boasts an impressive $82 billion. This indicates that XRP is roughly 20 times larger than Sui, meaning Sui requires significantly less new investment for price movement.

Currently, Sui has approximately 4.12 billion tokens in circulation, so if it reaches a price of $1, its market value could potentially hit around $4.12 billion. Nevertheless, Sui is trading about 82% below its all-time high of $5.35, recorded on January 4, 2025.

Furthermore, Sui’s token supply is still increasing, with only about 41.2% of its maximum supply of 10 billion tokens in circulation. Its fully diluted market value, accounting for all possible tokens at current valuation, is around $9.8 billion. In contrast, approximately 63.1% of XRP’s total supply of 100 billion tokens is already circulating, granting it a fully diluted value of about $130 billion.

Decentralized finance (DeFi) encompasses financial services facilitated by blockchain technology without the need for traditional banking systems. As of October 17, the total locked value in Sui’s DeFi applications was estimated at approximately $490 million, according to DeFiLlama. Additionally, Sui’s stablecoin market has reached around $501 million, marking a 5.8% increase over the past week. However, despite this rise, Suilend, Sui’s primary lending platform, experienced a 31.2% decrease in deposits last week.

On October 12, the Sui Foundation announced a $30 million investment in the DATA Network, a protocol aimed at providing AI training data to run directly on Sui using the Sui-based storage platform, Walrus. Yet this positive news failed to prevent Sui’s drop, as its price fell from $1.11 on October 10 to below $1 by October 17.

For XRP, ongoing interest is focused on its spot ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds), though recent demand has shown signs of slowing. As of October 16, U.S. XRP spot ETFs held about $1.47 billion in net assets, down from total net inflows of $1.8 billion.

However, following notable inflows in late September, recent days have seen outflows, including $105,000 on October 15 and $2.5 million on October 16, with several days registering no inflows.

Token Unlocks and ETF Burnout Affect Both Sui and XRP

Sui’s primary risk lies in its supply dynamics. With approximately 5.88 billion tokens yet to enter circulation—surpassing the current circulating supply—future token unlocks could introduce more sellers to the market. If demand does not keep pace with this increased supply, Sui’s recent 31% gain could quickly evaporate.

XRP faces similar hurdles. Interest in ETF investments appears to be declining, and XRP dropped 13.1% over the two weeks ending October 17. Additionally, Ripple’s attempts to establish payment partnerships seem to be insufficient in generating significant price momentum for 2026. This year, XRP has decreased by 29.1%, trading around 64% below its high of $3.65 on July 17, 2025.

Should You Invest in Sui or XRP? The Conclusion on Sui vs. XRP

For investors, Sui appears to present a more enticing option for those willing to navigate greater price volatility. Its market cap is substantially smaller than XRP’s, stablecoin inflows continue to arrive, and the $30 million investment in the DATA Network could enhance its utility. Conversely, XRP’s main growth driver—investments in ETFs—seems to have plateaued.

For Sui, if it closes above $1 consistently, it could pave the way to surpass its recent highs of $1.26 and $1.29 from October and September, respectively. However, a decline below its October low of $0.96 might bring it closer to the $0.67 mark. For XRP, a resurgence in daily ETF inflows exceeding $22.6 million could bolster its position, while continued outflows might pull it back to the $1 level it reached on August 18.
